James D. Galbreath, 63, of La Grange Highlands, Illinois died at 9:25 a.m., Sunday, December 29, 2019, at Adventist La Grange Memorial Hospital.
Jim was born at Monmouth, Illinois, on January 8, 1956, the son of Dale Galbreath and Evva Brown Galbreath. He attended Kirkwood and Yorkwood schools, graduating in 1974. Jim was a 1978 graduate of Monmouth College where he majored in chemistry. Following graduation he worked briefly in quality control at Wilson Foods in Monmouth. He then worked at UOP, a petroleum processing company, retiring in 2015 as a project engineer after over 30 years with the company. His work required travel to places as varied as London, England and Baku, Azerbaijan.
Jim pursued numerous interests. He built his own computers. He was an avid bicyclist and enjoyed kayaking. Most recently he was learning to sail and at times was able to crew for others.
Jim is survived by four sisters and brothers-in-law: Mary Distin and Gary; Sharon Jacobson and Atlee; Patricia Yakle and Monte; and Beverly McCue and Kenneth. He is also survived by ten nieces and nephews and six great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A graveside service for James Galbreath will be conducted at 11:00 AM Saturday, March 21, 2020 at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens in Galesburg, Illinois. No visitation or funeral service is planned at the funeral home at this time. The family gathering at the church following the service has been cancelled. Memorials may be left to Monmouth College or the Boy Scouts of American.
