John E. "Jack" Kage, age 85, of Oquawka, Illinois; passed away at 1:40 am on Saturday October 19, 2019 at Great River Klein Center in Burlington, Iowa. Jack was born on May 1, 1934 in Rozetta Township and is the son of Walter Evingston and Norma Fern Ward Kage. He was raised in Henderson County where he attended local schools and graduated from G & O High School. Jack entered the United States Air Force where he served from 1953 to 1973 and was stationed in Thailand during the Viet Nam era as a Tech Sergeant. He then was employed in the Oquawka Water Department for several years, and then worked at the Galesburg Mental Health Hospital from 1979 to 1980. Lastly, Jack worked for Lyle Worthington Farms near Little York from 1990 to his retirement in 2005. He loved bow hunting, bowling, and actively did photography. "Jack" was a member of and attended Faith Bible Church in Oquawka, Illinois.
He is survived by his wife, Rita of Klein Center in Burlington, and his daughter, Dawn Carter and Ed of Ft. Madison, Iowa and his son, Walter "Mike" Kage and Candace of Oquawka, Illinois. There are five grandchildren, Jonathon, Michael "Ty", Alex, Flint, and Emily and seven great grandchildren surviving. One brother also is surviving, Jerry Kage and Barb of Carman, Illinois. He is preceded in his death by his parents, one sister Shirley Sabins and one brother, Lloyd E. Kage.
A funeral service is planned on Thursday October 24, 2019 at 10:30 am at Turnbull Funeral Home in Oquawka, Illinois. Interment with military honors will be in the South Henderson Cemetery. His family plans visitation and will be at Turnbull Funeral Home in Oquawka on Wednesday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 pm.
