Marjorie A. Long, age 83, of Cameron, Illinois; passed away at 5:35pm on Saturday October 12, 2019 at Seminary Manor Nursing Home in Galesburg, Illinois. Marjorie was born on January 24, 1936 in Racine, Wisconsin and is the daughter of Karl Wilfred and Alice Elizabeth George Hein. She was raised and attended local schools in Racine and graduated from Washington ParkHigh School in Racine with the class of 1954. She then attended North Central College in Naperville, Illinois and transferred to Monmouth College where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education. Marjorie married Clarence "Tom" Long on December 8, 1956 in Racine, Wisconsin. He preceded her in death on November 26, 2015. Marjorie began work as a teacher at Warren Grade School where she taught fourth grade for many years. She then substitute taught at Warren and took care of her family while also helping Tom on the family farm. Marjorie was a member of Fairview Center United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, and has served on most of it's committees. She loved to cook and to quilt which she did most often for her church, family and her friends. She also loved to play bridge and was in several local bridge clubs. She served many years on the board of Carl Sandburg College and also thirteen years on the board of the Warren County Housing Authority. She also was a member of the U of I Home Extension in Warren County Illinois and an active member of the Warren County Farm Bureau.
She is survived by her daughters, Cynthia A. Pepmeyer and Tom of Galesburg, and Cheryl Kuppler and Karl of Fernandina Beach, FL; and two sons, Craig Long and Kimberly of rural Monmouth, and Chad Long and Lindsay of rural Monmouth. There are nine grandchildren, Katie (Matt) Wavering, Mary (Adam) Heller, Scott Pepemyer, DougPepmeyer, Michael (Maddie) Long, Kelly Long, Gina Long, Cohen Long, and Carsyn Long. There are three great grandchildren, Bella Wavering, Charlie Wavering, and Cameron Heller. Marjorie's sister also survives, Alice Frahm and Chuck of Racine, Wisconsin. She is preceded in her death by her parents, husband, and her nephew.
A funeral service is planned at Fairview Center United Methodist Church on Saturday October 19, 2019 at 10:30 am. Her family plans a visitation on Friday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth, Illinois. Memorial funds have been established for either Fairview Center United Methodist Church or the Warren County YMCA.
