Mellisa M. Hays

Mellisa M. Hays, age 40, of Macomb, Illinois, formerly of Monmouth, Illinois, passed away at 7:20 AM on Monday, August 5, 2019 at her residence. She was born on September 26, 1978 in Monmouth, Illinois, the daughter of Denise Durch. Mellisa attended school in Monmouth and later graduated from PASS Adult Education in Monmouth, Illinois. On May 9, 1998, Mellisa married Steven Hays, Sr. in Monmouth and he is surviving. Mellisa worked in health care, beginning at Pinewood Nursing Home in Monmouth, providing home health care, the Occupational Development Center in Industrial Falls, Minnesota, and Warren Achievement Center in Monmouth. Mellisa loved fishing with her husband and father-in-law. She also had a fondness for the arts; mainly painting and drawing.  She was also a HAM Radio Operator and carried the call sign KC9NSE. Mellisa was a gift to the world and everyone that knew her.

Mellisa is survived by her husband, Steven Hays, Sr. of Macomb, Illinois, her mother, Denise Ault of Monmouth, Illinois, two sons; Charles (Tabatha) Doss of Quincy, Illinois and Steven (Destiny) Hays, Jr. of Burlington, Iowa, her father-in-law, Leslie L. Hays of Monmouth, Illinois, and one aunt, Rise Renee Durch of Monmouth, Illinois. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Mellisa is preceded in death by her grandmother, Mary Rose Durch and her aunt, Mary Lousie Durch. 

A Funeral Mass is planned for 10:30 AM on Wednesday, August 14, 2019 at Immaculate Conception Church in Monmouth, Illinois. The Rosary will be recited 4:30 PM on Tuesday, August 13, 2019 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth, Illinois. Visitation will follow until 7:00 PM. Interment will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Monmouth, Illinois. A memorial fund is being established for Mellisa's Family.
