Obituary for Junior Willie Bielser

Junior Willie Bielser, age 82, of Gladstone, Illinois; passed away at 2:57 pm on Monday, December 31, 2018 at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington, Iowa. Junior was born on February 20, 1936 in Gladstone, Illinois and is the son of Willie E and Vivian M. Boughton Bielser. He was raised in Gladstone and attended local schools, then graduated from G & O High School. After his schooling, Willie honorably served his country joining the United States Army and was stationed in Ft. Leonard Wood and later was sent to Iceland as a corporal. After his service Junior married Evelyn M. Connolly on June 14, 1957 in Gladstone, Illinois. Willie has been an Iron Worker and been employed by Local Union 577 in Burlington, Iowa. He has been involved with the construction of bridges on I-80, 280, the Centennial Bridge in Davenport, IA, the Keokuk and Burlington Bridges and has been an iron worker for some fifty years. He is an avid Chicago White Sox Fan and Chicago Bears Fan. Starting in 1948 Junior played minor league baseball for the Gladstone Clippers and was asked to try out for the Detroit Tigers, but refused. He played and coached Men's Fast pitch Softball for many years, coached boys baseball-peewee, little league, pony league teams for many years and winning many Championships. Junior was adamant about the rules of baseball and the safety of his players. He also enjoyed fishing, mushrooming, coon hunting, and most of all watching his children and grandchildren play all sports. Willie was honored by the Henderson County Senior Center for his work as a driver; logging over 10,000 miles in all types of weather. He volunteers with the attitude "let me know what I can do and when I can do it." He is survived by his wife, Evelyn of Gladstone, IL; and daughter, Debra (Paul) Anderson of Stronghurst, Illinois, three sons, Darrel (Tracey) Bielser of Gladstone, IL; Terry (DeDe) Bielser of Stronghurst, IL; and Stephen (Margaret) Bielser of Oquawka, IL. There are eleven grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren surviving. Junior's sisters survive, Dixie (Rusty) Lox of Oquawka, IL and Jane (Steve) Mueske of Pine Island, Minnesota and two brothers, Danny (Donna) Bielser of Biggsville, IL; and John (Nancy) Bielser of Mountain Home, AR. A number of other relatives also are surviving. Junior is preceded in his death by his parents, one sister, and one brother.

A gathering of family and friends is planned on Saturday, January 5, 2019 from 10:00 to 12:00 pm at Turnbull Funeral Home in Oquawka, Illinois. Cremation has been accorded. Military honors will be presented at noon following the gathering of his family and friends. Fellowship in then planned by his family at the Gladstone VFW following their time and honors at Turnbull Funeral Home. A memorial fund is being established for the West Central Sports Program.
