Beatrice L. "Bea" (Simmons) Day

Beatrice L. "Bea" Day, age 88, of Stronghurst, Illinois, formerly of Monmouth, passed away at 11:30 PM on Sunday, December 27, 2020 at Oaklane Nursing and Rehab in Stronghurst. She was born August 4, 1932 in Tompkins Township near Kirkwood, Illinois, the daughter of William Henry and Lois Beatrice (Welch) Simmons. Bea attended school in Biggsville and Biggsville High School. Bea first married Donald Hugh Smith and he precedes her in death. On November 5, 1971, she married Edwin E. Day in Monmouth, Illinois and he preceded her in death on December 23, 1998. She worked as Certified Nurses Assistant for many years at both Monmouth Hospital and Community Memorial Hospital in Monmouth. Bea then worked many years at Western Illinois Home Health Care as a home health aid until her retirement. She was an avid reader and enjoyed crocheting. Bea loved decorating her home, and each holiday, created a showpiece for her family.

Bea is survived by two daughters, Donna (George) Carson of Colchester, Illinois and Diane (Roger) Keever of Monmouth, Illinois, three sons, Bill Smith of Gladstone, Illinois, Bruce L. (Anita) Smith of Biggsville, Illinois, and Brian H. (Chrissy) Smith of Kirkwood, Illinois, six grandchildren, and thirteen great-grandchildren. Also surviving is one sister, Jane (Robert) Mahr of Bushnell, Illinois, and one brother, Don (Marilyn) Simmons of Biggsville, Illinois. There are a number of other relatives also surviving. Bea is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and one sister, Ella Milligan.

A graveside service will be at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at Biggsville Township Cemetery. Friends may call all day, Monday, January 4, 2021 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth to pay their respects. A memorial is being established for the Henderson County Library. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, masks and social distancing will be required and no family receiving hours are being planned.
