Beth I (Burford) Dowell

Beth I. Dowell, age 93, of Monmouth, Illinois passed away at 8:35 pm on Sunday December 12, 2021 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg, Illinois. Beth was born on December 15, 1927 in Monmouth, Illinois and is the daughter of Arthur M. and Lois K. Armstrong Burford. She was raised in Monmouth where she attended local schools and is a graduate of Monmouth High School in the class of 1945. She later attended Monmouth College. Beth married Carson V. Dowell on November 29, 1952 in Monmouth, Illinois and he preceded her in death on March 19, 2010.  Beth first was employed at Gamble Skogmo as a secretary in Monmouth. She later worked the National Bank of Monmouth, and then served as a teacher's aide at Warren School.  She lastly was the secretary at Heritage United Presbyterian Church in Monmouth and was a member of it's Ruth Circle. She also was a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Beth enjoyed taking care of her yard and gardening and taking care of her flowers.  She is survived by her son Lynn Dowell and Mary Ann of Taylor Ridge, Illinois and four grandchildren, Hilary Sedam and Wes of Andalusia, Illinois, Jarrod Dowell and Peggy of Downers Grove, Illinois, Morgan Dowell and Taylor of Muscatine, Iowa, and Ethan Dowell of Taylor Ridge, Illinois.  There are six great grandchildren also surviving. She is preceded in her death by her parents, husband, and one sister, Barbara Johnson. 

A funeral service is planned at 11:00 am on Saturday December 18, 2021 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth, Illinois. Her family plans visitation at the funeral home for the hour prior to the service 10:00 am to 11:00 am. Interment will be next to her husband at Warren County Memorial Park Cemetery. A memorial fund is established for Heritage Bible Church of Monmouth.
