Carroll J. " C J " Brown

Carroll J. " C J " Brown, age 74, of Gladstone, Illinois passed away at 6:25 am on Wednesday December 8, 2021 at Great River Medical Center in Burlington, Iowa. CJ was born on June 18, 1947 in LaHarpe, Illinois and is the son of Lee E and Dora J. Poindexter Brown. As a boy he attended several local elementary schools and graduated from Nauvoo High School in Nauvoo, Illinois. He later attended a number of years at Western Illinois University in Macomb. CJ honorably served his country in the United States Air Force during the Viet Nam War. CJ was married to Nancy Jo Johnston on December 5, 1971 in Niota, Illinois. She preceded him in death on October 13, 2021. CJ began work at General Electric in Burlington, Iowa and was a High Voltage Tester for the company. During his time he traveled to Saudi Arabia installing and testing switch gear. His entire career was with General Electric working 33 1/3 months and retiring in 2002. CJ enjoyed going to Senior Citizens in Gladstone and loved deer hunting and the out of doors. CJ attended the Gladstone United Methodist Church. He is survived by three sisters, Sandra Brown and Jody of LaHarpe, Illinois; Brenda Brewer and Larry of Bloomfield, Iowa; and Darlene Manes and Wesley of Gladstone, Illinois. There also are her two brothers, Kenneth W. Brown and Bonny of Dallas City, Illinois and Kevin Brown of Bloomfield, Iowa. There are two children and five grandchildren also surviving. CJ is preceded in his death by his parents, wife, four brothers, and numerous aunts and uncles. 

A funeral service is being planned at 11:00 am on Wednesday December 15, 2021 at the Turnbull Funeral Home in Oquawka, Illinois. His family plans a visitation at Turnbull's on Wednesday for the hour prior to the funeral service,    10:00 am to 11:00 am. Interment with Military Honors will follow at the Tull Cemetery in Niota, Illinois. A memorial fund is being established for the Honor Guard at the Dallas City American Legion.
