Colleen Kinney Obituary

Colleen Fisher Kinney, 80, of Monmouth, Illinois, peacefully passed away at 6:00pm on September 26, 2021 at her home with her family. Colleen was born on November 29, 1940 in Rock Island to Garald and Gwen (McGaughy) Fisher. She attended Goodwell Country School, Aledo Elementary and graduated from Aledo High School in 1958. Colleen studied a semester at The University of Miami-Coral Gables, then went on to earn her Bachelors of Arts in Psychology with a minor in Education from Monmouth College in 1962. She celebrated being a “Golden Scot'' in 2012. On August 3rd, 1963 Colleen married Harold Kinney at the Immaculate Conception Church in Monmouth. He preceded her in death on May 28, 2021. They celebrated nearly 58 years of marriage. Following college, Colleen taught one year in Mt Prospect, Illinois and one year in Napa, California. She and Harold then moved back to Warren County to be near family. She spent the next 14 years at home raising her three children. In 1978 she started her 28 year teaching tenure at Immaculate Conception School. She considered the ICS faculty, staff, students and parents her second family. Since retirement Colleen kept active in the Warren County Retired Teachers of Illinois, Aledo “Dragon ladies” luncheon club, a member of the Phi Beta Phi Alumni association, Couples Card Club with friends, traveling and keeping up with her children and grandchildren’s activities. Anyone that knew Colleen knew she had the most generous heart and a personality that drew people to her. Colleen is survived by two daughters, Tracey (Ken) Marty and Julie (Rick) Vickroy and one son, HT (Christine) Kinney, six grandchildren, Colby Landry, Tess Vickroy, Cullen Vickroy, Christian Kinney, Neil Marty, Bridget Marty and one great granddaughter, Emery Gallegos and 13 nieces and nephews. Also surviving is one sister, Cheryl Kinney and one brother, Bill (Cathy) Fisher, two sister in laws, Marian Hand and Melba (Bill) Rogoway. She is preceded in death by her parents, three brothers in law George Hand, Howard Kinney, Gerald Kinney.

Mass of the Christian Burial is planned on Tuesday October 5, 2021 at 10:00 am at Immaculate Conception Church of Monmouth, Illinois. Her family plans calling hours all day at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth, on Monday October 4, 2021 and her family plans to be at the funeral home from 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Monday evening. Interment will be in the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery next to her husband following the mass. Fellowship will then be in the Mary Twomey Hall for the services.
