Doris J. (Rankin) Smith

Doris J. Smith, age 95, formerly of Kirkwood, Illinois; passed away at Courtyard Estates in Monmouth, on Sunday November 15, 2020 at 3:10 pm. Doris was born on July 11, 1925 in Biggsville, Illinois and is the daughter of Edgar E.and Veda Alice Perdue Rankin. She was raised in Biggsville where she attended local schools and graduated from Biggsville High School with the class of 1943.  Doris married Dale L."Senator" Smith on June 12, 1947 in Biggsville, Illinois. He preceded her in death on August 7, 2014. Doris began work at Sylvania in Burlington, Iowa for a time. She then drove a school bus for Yorkwood School District for over twenty-five years. She and her husband Dale, owned a 1962 Studebaker and later a Willis Jeepster and enjoyed being together and going to car shows and flea markets. They also loved camping at Youngs Lake in Kirkwood and just loved being together.

Surviving Doris are three nephews, David White and William White and Bonna, both of Carman, Illinois and Alan White and Nancy of Lomax, Illinois. Her niece, Sharry Rankin survives in Tucson, Arizona and her brother in law Jim Smith survives in Dubuque, Iowa. She is preceded in her death by her parents, husband Dale, brother Kenny,  and sister Annabelle, and her nephew Gary.

Due to restrictions issued by the Center for Disease Control and the Covid 19 virus, social distancing and face coverings are highly recommended. Friends may call and pay their respects to Doris all day on Thursday at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth, Illinois. A graveside funeral service and interment is planned at the Biggsville Cemetery on Friday at 10:30 am. Social distancing is recommended. A memorial fund for St. Jude's Children's Hospitals has been established by her family.
