E. Leroy Davis Obituary

E. Leroy Davis, age 89, of Oquawka, Illinois, passed away at 9:50 AM on Thursday, December 23, 2021 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa. He was born March 5, 1932 in Monmouth, Illinois, the son of Charles Lee and Greta Pearl (Daugherty) Davis. Leroy attended schools locally and graduated from Monmouth High School with the Class of 1950. On July 9, 1965, he married Beverly Norman at the Coldbrook Christian Church and she preceded him in death on November 7, 1997. Leroy proudly served his County during the Korean Conflict with the United States Navy. After his enlistment, he remained committed to all Veterans and their organizations.

Leroy began farming at an early age. He later worked for F.S. as a deliveryman, an insurance agent for County Companies, and until his retirement in 1997, a representative for the Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs. After retirement, being a man that couldn't sit still, he worked as a funeral assistant for Turnbull Funeral Home. Leroy was a longtime member of the Coldbrook Christian Church. He was a 50 years member of Post #136 of the American Legion, severing several terms as Commander. He also served as District Commander for the American Legion. Leroy was also a life member of the V.F.W. Post, a member of Kiwanis, and Monmouth Masonic Lodge #37 A.F.A.M. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, cooking, woodworking, and watching his favorite Saturday night television on R.F.D. television. Leroy will be remembered as a kind, giving, and patriotic man.

Leroy is survived by one daughter, Debbie (Bill) Hruby of Oquawka, Illinois, one son, Tim (Mindy) Davis of Ft. Dodge, Iowa, and his grandchildren; Caden and Landyn Bockert, and Taryn Davis. Also surviving are on sister, Sandra (Curt) Shimmin of Monmouth, Illinois, and one brother, Gene Davis or Tarpon Springs, Florida, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.  He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Bev, one sister, Dolores (Roger) Johnson, and his sister-in-law, Lorraine Davis.
