Fern Lox Obituary

 

Fern M. Lox, age 93, of Oquawka, Illinois; passed away at 7:30 am on Monday August 23, 2021 at Oak Wood Estates Retirement in Stronghurst, Illinois. Fern was born on May 31, 1928 in Galesburg, Illinois and is the daughter of Earl W. and Viola Bertha    Riggle    Meline. Fern was raised in Alexis, Illinois where she attended local schools and graduated from Alexis High School. Fern married Jamie F. Lox on September 8, 1947 in Burlington, Iowa. He preceded her in death on December 5, 2005. Fern first worked at Smoler's garment manufacturing in Monmouth and later for many years was a store clerk at Tom & Linda's Retail Grocery, also in Monmouth. She loved to sew and quilt and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals Baseball Fan. She loved her family and grandchildren and attended all of their family events and activities. She also loved being with her grandpups and endured eleven years of dialysis before her passing.
Her husband 
Jamie F. Lox of Oquawka, IL. was born November 25, 1928 in Gladstone, Illinois and is the son of Lucius William and Catherine Lucy Colley Lox. He was raised in Gladstone where he attended Gladstone schools
Started farming South of  Oquawka, Illinois.    He then worked as a meat cutter at Barr's Locker in Little York, Illinois.  He then worked with his brother Bill in the operation of the "Blue Goose "  Tavern in Oquawka, for a number of years.   Jamie then began a career in Bulldozing, starting with H. Snyder Company in  Monmouth,  then working for a time with Greenstreet Bulldozing.    Lastly Jamie worked at the Gladstone Grain Company again doing bulldozer work.     Jamie was an operator of heavy equipment for forty years.
He and she are survived by her daughters, Pam Bigger and Joe of Biggsville, Illinois and Toni  Hopkins and Mike of Gladstone, Illinois, and one son Jeff  Lox and Lisa of Oquawka, Illinois. There are eleven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, one suviving brother, Wayne Riggle of Ft. Madison, IA, and 12 grandpups surviving her. She is preceded in her death by her parents, sister, husband, and her daughter, Jana Koopmans. 

 A combined memorial interment of both of their ashes is planned at 11:00 am on Monday July 18, 2022 at the Oquawka Cemetery.  Memorial funds are being planned for Oakwood Estates, Paws Animal Shelter, or the Western Illinois Animal Rescue.
