Gloria A. (Matthys) Minard

Gloria A. Minard, age 86, of Biggsville, Illinois; passed away at 2:25 pm on Wednesday August 29, 2021 at Iowa Methodist Hospital in DesMoines, Iowa. Gloria was born on January 15, 1935 in Ft. Dodge, Iowa and is the daughter of John Benedict and Viva Eulalia Fields Matthys. She was reared in Ft. Dodge where she attended local schools and graduated from Western Illinois University in Macomb where her BA in Education. Gloria married Kenneth J. Minard on October 3, 1955 in Blairsburg, Virginia. He preceded her in death on September 15, 2001.  Gloria was active in her community, serving on the Biggsville village board for several terms and as Mayor of the village for a number of years. She was a volunteer EMT for the village ambulance service for over 30 years. Gloria spent decades with the Biggsville Library, and through operating the Bookmobile she ensured the entire county and it's schools had regular access to a variety of materials; She also worked in the village post office. She enjoyed cooking and classical music, but her greatest joy in life was spending time with family and looking after her great-grandchildren. Gloria is survived seven children, ten grandchildren, and many great grandchildren. Also by her sister, Lorraine and her brother, Donald. She is preceded in her death by her parents and her husband of 46 years, Kenneth. A funeral mass for Gloria is planned on Friday September 3, 2021 at 10:00 am at Immaculate Conception Church of Monmouth. Cremation is then to be accorded. Her family plans to be at the church for the hour prior to her mass 9:00 to 10:00 am to receive their friends.
