Hannah (Jane) Grand Obituary

Hannah (Jane) Lucas Grand, age 86, of Monmouth, IL passed away on June 17, 2020 at St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.  She had been a resident at Seminary Manor in Galesburg.   Jane was born September 22, 1933 in Galesburg, the daughter of James Victor and Jane Gregg Lucas. She was raised in the Monmouth area and attended Galesburg High School.  In 1955, she graduated from Eureka College with a degree in Education.  Jane married Irving H. Grand on August 8, 1955, at the Coldbrook Christian Church in Cameron where she was a member for many years.  Jane was honored as one of the Outstanding Young Women in America in 1968 and was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Jane taught elementary school in Deer Creek, Galesburg, and Westchester, Illinois schools until moving to New York State, where she continued to teach in Warsaw, New York.  She owned her own business, The Stationery Store, in Geneseo, New York, for several years, and after returning to Illinois, worked at Office Specialists in Galesburg and Monmouth until her retirement.
She loved music and played organ at church.  Jane liked the outdoors, hunting for antiques, working in her yard, and local history.  Upon her retirement she enjoyed gardening, spending time with her family at various get-togethers, and watching birds and wildlife from her front porch.

Jane is survived by her children, Mary (Ben) Nicholson of Galesburg; Victor (Nancy) Grand of Richmond, VA;  Beth (Glenn) Campbell of Cameron; a brother, Lee Lucas of Monmouth; a sister Martha (Chuck) Biederbeck of Vancouver, WA; sister-in-law, Lorraine Grand of Palos Park, IL;  granddaughter Shelby Davin of Macomb; granddaughter Riley Davin, and great granddaughter, Reese Mae Range of Jacksonville, FL; as well as several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Irving H. Grand, in 2006.

A private graveside service is planned.  Jane will be laid to rest at Mosher Cemetery in rural Monmouth.  Donations in lieu of flowers may be given to Eureka College, Eureka, IL or a charity of your choice.
