Harold T. Kinney, age 84, of Monmouth, Illinois, passed away at 3:46 PM on Friday, May 28, 2021 at OSF Holy Family Medical Center in Monmouth, Illinois. Harold was born on January 25, 1937, the son of Frank E. and Esther (Brownlee) Kinney, he was raised on the family Sesquicentennial Farm in Little York. . He attended Duck Creek School and Little York High School with the Class of 1954, where he was participated in athletics and was Student Body President. After high school, Harold obtained his Bachelors of Science Degree from Colorado State University in 1958. He also attended the University of California-Berkley where he pursed his Masters Degree in Accounting. From 1958-1960, Harold proudly served his Country as a 1st Lieutenant in the United States Army. On August 3, 1963, he married Colleen Y. Fisher in the Immaculate Conception Church in Monmouth and she is surviving.
Harold began working as the Coordinator of Costs & Operations of Christian Brothers Winery in Napa, California. He was a buyer and seller of livestock at the Warren County Livestock Association. From 1972-2009, he owned and operated The Bottlery in Monmouth, selling wines and spirits. He was a 50 year grain and livestock farmer with his brother Howard, brother-in-law Bill Fisher, and father-in-law Garald Fisher. Since 2012, Harold was a full time retiree and part-time farm manager. He was a member of the Warren County Selective Service Board, a 3rd and 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, a member of the Yorkwood Board of Education, the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity, and a founding member of the Monmouth College Fighting Scots Association. Harold was a dedicated sports fan, following the Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears, and Monmouth College athletics. He was an avid reader and lifelong learner, studying history and government. Harold was a longtime member of Immaculate Conception Church in Monmouth.
Harold is survived by his wife of 58 years Colleen Kinney, two daughters, Tracey (Ken) Marty and Julie (Rick) Vickroy, one son, H.T. (Christine) Kinney, six grandchildren, Colby Landry, Tess Vickroy, Cullen Vickroy, Christian Kinney, Neil Marty, and Brideget Marty, one great-granddaughter Emery Gallegos, and thirteen nieces and nephews. Also surviving are two sisters, Marion Hand and Melba (Bill) Rogaway, one sister-in-law Cheryl Kinney, and one brother-in-law Bill (Cathy) Fisher. Harold is preceded in death by his parents, sister Ruth Kinney, two brothers, Gerald and Howard Kinney, brother-in-law George Hand, and his in-laws, Garald and Gwen Fisher.
Mass of the Christian Burial for Harold Kinney is planned for 10:30 AM on Thursday, June 3, 2021 at Immaculate Conception Church in Monmouth, Illinois. Prayer of the Rosary will be held at 10:00 AM prior to Mass. Friends may call all day on Wednesday, June 2, 2021 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth, with the family present from 5:00-7:00 PM. Interment will be at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery with Military Honors. Memorials may be left for Immaculate Conception School. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, attendees are encouraged to wear face coverings and observe social distancing.
