Lonetta I. Fernald Brannan, age 98, of Monmouth, Illinois; passed away at 9:20 pm on Tuesday October 5, 2021 at the Monmouth Nursing Home. Lonetta was born on December 23, 1922 in Abingdon, Illinois and is the daughter of Edward and Myrtle Keller Schisler. She was raised in Abingdon, Illinois where she attended school in Abingdon. Lonetta first married Leon E. Fernald in Galesburg, Illinois. He preceded her in death in 1967. She later married J. Donald Brannan on October 4, 1969 in Monmouth, and he preceded her in his death on December 20, 2007. Lonetta was employed by Herb Levine at the Levine Gift and Music store on the square in Monmouth, Illinois. She was the clerk and helped out in many ways at the store. Later she served as a nurses aide at Monmouth Hospital for a many years. She was a member of Westside United Presbyterian Church in Monmouth and a member of it's quilting group. In earlier days she loved to go skating in Abingdon at the roller rink and at that time was known as "Speedy". She is survived by her son, Gary Fernald and Sherry of Monmouth, Illinois, and two daughters, Marilyn Brewer and Dick of Montfort, Wisconsin and Patricia McKelvie and Mark of Salem, Oregon. There are six grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and eight great great grandchildren surviving. She is preceded in her death by her parents, husbands, two grandchildren, one great, great grandson, three sisters, and two brothers.
A graveside funeral service is planned by her family on Monday October 11, at 10:30 am at Warren County Memorial Park Cemetery. No viewing or formal visitation is currently being planned. Interment will be in the Warren County Memorial Park Cemetery. A memorial fund is being established for Monmouth Nursing Home. Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth is in charge of her care.
