Mary Boozan Stivers

Mary Boozan Stivers, age 92, formerly of Monmouth, passed away at Concordia Village Care Center in Springfield, Illinois on Wednesday morning, August 2nd, 2023. Mary was born on June 24, 1931 in Monmouth, Illinois and is the daughter of Richard William and Ethel Greenstreet Boozan. Mary began her schooling in the rural Foster School and continued at Denny rural school. She then went to McGaw Corners and the again to Foster rural school. Mary then attended and graduated from Monmouth High School and the class of 1950. She then married Harry A. "Bud" Stivers on January 13, 1974 in Indianapolis, Indiana. He preceded her in his death in May of 2011.  Mary first worked as secretary in the office of Henry Lewis, Attorney at Law of Monmouth, then was clerical for Bufford Hottle, States Attorney.  She then did office work for High Martin Plymouth Dealer of Monmouth until she moved to Springfield in 1961. In Springfield, she did clerical for Charles Carpenter, Secretary of State, then was secretary for the State Board of Higher Education in Springfield, Illinois, and as a secretary for the University of Illinois in Chicago, Illinois. She lastly retired from the Catholic Charities in Las Vegas, Nevada. 

Surviving her is her sister, Helen M. Boozan of Springfield, Illinois. Her step-daughter, Sue and step-son Mark are also surviving her.  Her cousin survives and several other relatives. 

A Mass of the Christian Burial is planned on Tuesday August 8, 2023 at 10:30 am at the Immaculate Conception Church of Monmouth, Illinois. Her family plans a visitation and will receive friends at the Church from 9:30 to 10:00 am. The Rosary will be recited at 10:00 am prior to Mass. Interment will be in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery next to her husband. A memorial fund is established for Immaculate Conception Church of Monmouth or Church of the Little Flower of Springfield, Illinois.
