Mary Lois Keever, age 77, of Gladstone, Illinois, passed away at 2:11 PM on Tuesday, March 9, 2021 at Great River Hospice House in West Burlington, Iowa. She was born December 31, 1943 in Burlington, Iowa, the daughter of William Ray and Adeline (Gerber) Monroe. Mary graduated from Notre Dame High School and attended Southeastern Community College, and later Carl Sandburg College. She also was a licensed Real Estate Broker. on May 4, 1968, she married Lloyd Russel Keever in Burlington, Iowa and he preceded her in death on November 29, 2018. She was previously married to Julian DeVoss. Mary worked at Lehigh Leopold Desk, Stronghurst Reality, JC Penney, and Advantage Sales and Marketing. She loved reading, camping, traveling, pets, and learning about other cultures.
Mary is survived by two step-daughters, Judy Mooney and Debbie (Wayne) Crawley, one step-son, Russell (Dixie) Keever, one brother, Edward Monroe, seven foster sons, and one foster daughter. Also surviving are four former exchange students and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, one son, Julian A. DeVoss, Jr, and one brother, Bill Monroe.
As were Mary's wishes, cremation is being accorded. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, March 17, 2021 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Oquawka, Illinois. Visitation will be from 9:30-10:30 prior to the service at the funeral home. A memorial fund is being established for Faith Bible Church in Oquawka. Due to Covid-19, face masks will be required and social distancing will be observed.
