Melvin Boughton Obituary

Melvin Junior Boughton, age 78, of Oquawka, Illinois passed away at his Oquawka residence on Monday November 2, 2020 at 7:00 am. " Mel " was born on September 15, 1942 in Oquawka, Illinois and is the son of Melvin A. and Emily A. Gilbert Boughton. Mel was raised in Oquawka where he attended local schools and G & O High School. Junior married Rebecca Jane Moore on December 19, 1964 in Rozetta, Illinois. She preceded him on September 11, 2019. Melvin was a front-end man and worked at the Firestone Store in Burlington, Iowa for twelve years. He later was a heavy hauler for Daily Express Company in Carlisle, Pennsylvania for twenty-eight years and until his retirement. Melvin was honored with several awards for his safe driving over many miles. He loved and rode Harley Davidson Motorcycles and antique cars were his joy. Junior loved to go boating on the Mississippi river and loved to go traveling and camping. He is survived by his sister, Shirley (Jim) Brown of Theodosia, Missouri and two brothers, Joe (Dixie) Boughton of Oquawka, Illinois and Bob Boughton of Kansas City, Missouri. There are numerous nieces and nephews surviving as well as his special friends, Larry and Cheryl Lain and Roger Hurt. Preceding him in his death would be his parents, Mel and Emily Boughton and his beloved wife, "Becky"

A funeral service for Melvin Junior Boughton is planned at 10:30 am on Friday November 6, 2020 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Oquawka, Illinois. Friends may call anytime on Thursday after 11:00 am at Turnbull Funeral Home and pay their respects to Melvin. No visitation hours are currently planned by his family and due to restrictions by the Center for Disease Control and social distancing, wearing a face covering is highly suggested. Interment will be in the Oquawka Cemetery next to his wife, and a memorial fund is being established for the Cancer Care Center in West Burlington, Iowa. To leave a condolence
