Robert Hiett Obituary


Robert A. Hiett, age 99, of Monmouth, Illinois passed away at 4:34 pm on Friday March 25, 2022 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg, Illinois. Robert was born on April 29, 1922 in Little York, Illinois and is the son of Alva and Anna Redmond Hiett. He was raised in Little York and attended local schools in Monmouth and graduated from Monmouth High School. He attended Monmouth College and received his Bachelor Degree and then attained his Doctorate in Science and his Phd at Florida Christian College in Education. Robert served his country in the United States Army and served in the North African and Pacific Theatres as a Private 1st class. He married A Maxine Reyburn in February of 1958 in Monmouth, Illinois. She preceded him in death on September 14, 2015. He began work for Illinois Bell where he was a manager. He then worked for the Illinois Conservation Department for a time and later taught graduate and undergraduate science at Monmouth College and Western Illinois University in Macomb. Robert also began and operated Maple City Decorating and for many decades has been the appraiser at Maple City Coins locally and worldwide. Robert has been very involved at Monmouth College and has been the president of it's Alumni Association. He also has been the Director of the Concert Lecture Series and is a member of the local Monmouth Landlord's Association.  Robert loved the out of doors and was a hunter and fisherman most of his life. He also loved to garden and had a massive garden and produce.  He is survived by his daughters, Merleanne Rampale and Robert and Roberta Ann Hiett both of Lincolnshire, Illinois.  His son Robert Hiett II also is surviving and lives in Kewanee, Illinois. There are seven grandchildren, six great grandchildren and four great grandchildren surviving him. 

A Mass of the Christian Burial is planned on Thursday March 31, 2022 at Immaculate Conception Church at 10:00 am with Military Honors and interment at St. Mary's Cemetery in Monmouth. No Rosary or visitation is currently planned by his family. A memorial fund is being established for the National Wildlife Foundation.
