Sara Warfield Obituary

Sara Jane (Mears) Warfield, age 89, of Monmouth, Illinois passed away at 10:14 am on January 20, 2024 at Seminary Manor of Galesburg, Illinois. Jane was born on July 8, 1934 in Indianapolis, Indiana and is the daughter of Joseph Alexander  and Maud Anne DeVore Mears. Jane, known as Sara Jane in her younger days, had a transient childhood as her father was an army chaplain. Locations included Birmingham, Michigan; Weehawken, New Jersey; Alexandria, Virginia; and finally, Maywood, Illinois, where she completed junior high and high school. Jane attended Monmouth college from 1952-56, where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority and met her future husband, David McKee Warfield. After graduation as an English and history major, Jane was a stewardess with United Airlines until marrying David on May 3, 1958, in Maywood. She is survived by her daughter, Anne (Warfield) Reid, Lakewood, Colorado; son John Warfield, Belleville, Illinois; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Her life was spent doing what she loved with the people she loved: Devoted to her church, playing bridge in her many clubs, as a member of PEO, as a hospital volunteer, and as curator with the Pi Beta Phi and Kappa Kappa Gamma museums associated with Monmouth College.
A memorial service is being planned for Saturday at  11:00 am April 13, 2024 at Faith United Presbyterian Church in Monmouth, Illinois, In lieu of flowers, donations to Beacon of Hope Hospice, Galesburg, Illinois; or PEO Chapter E, Monmouth, Illinois, would be greatly appreciated.
