Stephen L Cox

Stephen L. Cox, age 73, of Monmouth, passed away at 12:25 am at Generations Oakton Pavillion in Des Plaines, IL on Thursday January 1, 2020. Stephen was born on April 16, 1946 in Monmouth, Illinois and is the son of Russel and Lois Clayton Cox. He was raised in Monmouth and attended local schools and Monmouth High School. Stephen served his country during Viet Nam where he was a Specialist E5 in the United States Army.Upon his return, Stephen began as an assembler and worked on the line at Maytag Corporation in Galesburg where he worked for thirty years. He became a electrical repairman on the assembly line and later a machine operator for the corporation. He loved fishing and gardening. Surviving Stephen are three sons, George Cox and Jenny of Palitine, Illinois, David Cox in Galesburg, Illinois, Matthew Cox in Las Vages, Nevada. Also a number of nieces and nephews are surviving. Stephen's half sister Jenny Carlson and Denny of Kankakee, Illinois are also surviving. Preceding him in his death are his parents. 
A graveside funeral service with military honors will be on Monday January 6, 2020 at 11:00 am at the Monmouth Cemetery Veterans Section. His family will gather at Turnbull Funeral Home on Monday prior to the service at 10:00 am.  A memorial fund is being established for either "The Fellowship" or Disabled American Veterans.
