Sylvia I. Smith, age 86, of Kirkwood, Illinois; passed away at 5:25 am on January 11, 2022 at Southeastern Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington, Iowa She was born on August 10, 1935 in Nauvoo, Illinois and is the daughter of Hugo and Orpha Symmonds. Sylvia was raised in Nauvoo where she attended schools and graduated from Nauvoo High School. After her schooling she began work as a waitress at the Hotel Nauvoo for a number of years. She first married Floyd Ebert, Jr. on March 6, 1954 in LaHarpe, Illinois. He preceded her in death on June 29, 1980. She later married Donald Smith on June 30, 1984 in Rozetta, and he later preceded her in death on March 28, 2019. Sylvia was a homemaker and a farm wife with her husbands. Sylvia enjoyed gardening, and going mushroom hunting, fishing, and camping. Lastly she served as a cook at Union High School until her retirement. Sylvia is survived by two daughters, Marcella (Roger) Cisna of Oquawka, Illinois and Sandra (Tom) Keane of Stronghurst, Illinois. There are two sons surviving, Tim (Robin) Ebert of Little York, Illinois and Alan (Julie) Ebert of Peoria, Illinois. Grandchildren surviving are, Shawn (Lisa) Cisna, Brenda (Tory) Mills, Rachel (Austin) Minnehan, Michael (Kelsey) Keane, Shannon VanTine, Felicia (Jeremy) Simmons, Nicole (Bill) Salyers, Chris (Sara) Ebert, Nick (Pedro) Ebert Guerrero, and Eric (Sadie) Ebert. She is survived by her great grandchildren, Teagan & Kendall Mills, Lauren Shuda, Jennalynn, Marinn, Colt, Jake, Kaleen Cisna, Finn and Kinley Minnehan, Kesler Keane, Cade, Lincoln, and Lauren Simmons, Piper, Laney, Liam, and Jack Salyers, Bradley Sheehan, Aunna Bresnahan, Michelle Sheehan, and Kayne Bayless. One sister are surviving Barbara (Dale) Cannizzaro of Nauvoo, IL and one brother, David Symmonds of Pittsboro, Indiana. She is preceded in her death by her parents, husbands, one brother, Jack Symmonds and one sister, Ruth Michael
A funeral service is planned on Saturday January 15, 2022 at 10:30 am at the Turnbull Funeral Home in Oquawka, Illinois. Interment will be in the Biggsville Township Cemetery in Biggsville. Friends may call at the Turnbull Funeral Home in Oquawka Illinois from 9:30 to 10:30 for the hour prior to the funeral service. A memorial fund is being established for the Southeastern Iowa Regional Hospice House.
