Wava M. (Thompson) Smith

Wava M. Smith, age 82, of Oquawka, Illinois passed away at 1:10 am on Monday August 30, 2021 at her Oquawka residence. Wava was born on December 28, 1938 in Plymouth, Illinois and is the daughter of Louis William and Inez Kendell Thompson. She was raised in and around Camden, Illinois where she attended school. She then attended G & O High School in Gladstone and graduated with the class on 1956. Wava married James M. "Snuffy" Smith on July 7, 1957 in Oquawka, Illinois and he preceded her in death on April 30, 2016. Wava was a sty-at-home mom while her children were young and was a caring mother and grandmother for her family. She also was a Cub Scout Master in Oquawka. She began work as a clerk in Oquawka at the TruValu Hardware Store and later became the manager of the store. She also enjoyed bowling on Wednesday's .   
She is survived by three sons, Jon Smith and Carrie of Oquawka, Illinois, Ron Smith of Oquawka, Illinois and Lon Smith and Barb of Biggsville, Illinois. Her grandson, Justin Smith survives in Roseville, Illinois. There are two granddaughters, four great granddaughters, and her brother, Louis Thompson and Mary of Bertrum, Minnesota. She is preceded in her death by her parents, husband Snuffy, Son Don, Granddaughter and Sister Mildred. 
A funeral service and burial is planned at 10:30 am on Saturday September 11, 2021 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Oquawka, Illinois. Her interment will be next to her husband in Oquawka Cemetery.
